"IN
the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by
him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was
life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in
darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." John, chapter
1, verses 1 through 5.
"For God so loved the world, that he
gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life." John,
chapter 3, verse 16.
"The Word" as found in many places in Scripture is Jesus. "The only
begotten Son" is Jesus. And, that same
Jesus is the only way to salvation and the forgiveness of sin.
He was
born in a stable, He lived among the common people, He died a terrible
death on
the cross, He was buried in a tomb, He arose from the dead, and He was
received into heaven to sit at the right hand of God as the Son of the
Father.
Yet, he was born a carpenter's son, a child of humble but noble lineage
on his mother's side of their family. All manners of people had (and
still have)
expectations about Him, what He could and can do, what His kingdom
would and one day will be about.
Untold numbers of people have praised His holy
name, and untold numbers of people have cursed His holy name. How many
people took Him for granted, or simply decided to ignore Him
altogether? Not so much as a single one of
them ever
was, or is, or ever will
be, unknown to Him.
Eternal salvation and God's forgiveness of sin is found in Him alone.
Period.
